Candy's Beautiful Darling; obsessed with the glamour of the 1950's, Kim Novak was Candy Darling's idol and goddess. Candy wanted desperately to be on the silver screen. She was one of Andy Warhol's muses aka Warhol Superstar and was a part of the Warhol Factory in the 1970's.

Jeremiah Newton was her best friend and he worshiped and he also offered a place to stay. Hope Slattery aka Candy Darling was cast in short scene in Flesh by Andy Warhol and then Candy was cast in Women in Revolt, one of Warhol's more famous films.

Stars in Warhol's films loose the brightness very quickly and so Candy pursued the indie film world and appeared in several films post-Warhol including  Klute with Jane Fonda and Lady Liberty with Sophia Loren.

Darling was also the muse of The Velvet Underground a punk band in the 1970's and was featured in the song by Lou Reed, "Walk on the Wild Side"..."Candy came from out on the Island
In the back room she was everybody's darling"

Candy Darling
Porcelain skin, soft seductive voice, tall stem legs and liquid brown eyes that were jewels in the sun to many stars alike...she was a wanderer, portraying one image while the reality of her life was very different. Candy would  say that she never pays for anything and at times because of the generosity of stars and artists she did not have to but her life was never secure.

Darling smoked constantly and took hormone pills pursuing her dream of becoming a woman because Candy was really a boy who grew into woman.

According to findadeath.com, Candy allegedly developed leukemia as a result of the hormones she had been taking, the long-term results of which had not been sufficiently studied; however this is still highly contested. In a letter written on her deathbed and intended for Andy Warhol and his followers, Darling said, "Unfortunately before my death I had no desire left for life . . . I am just so bored by everything. You might say bored to death. (D)id you know I couldn't last. I always knew it. I wish I could meet you all again."

I will not cease to be myself for foolish people. For foolish people make harsh judgments on me. You must always be yourself, no matter what the price. It is the highest form of morality.” Candy Darling

Writers Note: I chose not to share the real name of Candy Darling because after watching Candy Darling's documentary it does not matter. She died believing in who she aspired to become and once she was done then she was done.
