A corset is one of the most popular lingerie items today. A corset can be worn at night out, during the day, to the office, out on the town - celebrities wear them like armor. I personally love to wear a corset or a corselet depending on my mood.
Corset History
The first corset was made in the 1550's and in the 1830's it was used as medical aid for the fragile women of that era. Women and men wear corsets.
If you don't already know, I will share with you the definition of a corset before I discuss a corselet. A corset is garment worn to mold and shape the torso but the modern day corset is not made of the same material as a traditional corset because that was designed to confirm to the body of the corset owner. Many corsets are made boning and lacing to replicate the traditional corset but it is not the same thing.
Corselet History
A corselet is a foundation garment that was similar to a girdle or a shaper, and the term refers to a piece of armor. It was used as armor in the 16th century. In the 1900's, it was used as a undergarment for women instead of wearing a bra with girdle or a corset. Corselet's are gaining popularity again but either as a body shaper or looser fitting corset. Corselets are more popular outside of the US.
The choice is yours but I suggest corsets for formal affairs and corselets for every day wear. Finally a corset has lacing in the back and a corselet does not, easy as pumpkin pie.
